Cleaning up garbage with recycled garbage bags

Saturday September 15 was World Cleanup Day. Litter was cleaned up and mapped worldwide. Oerlemans Packaging sponsored the World Cleanup Day Nederland, in which more than 250 teams participated. Oerlemans Packaging produced recycled garbage bags for the Dutch teams and, spread over the entire country, more than 60 employees actively joined the clean-up campaign.

The branches of Oerlemans Plastics in Genderen and Giessen mobilized 44 employees and family to join this movement. Both the younger and older generation were represented. Oerlemans joined in the region Land van Heusden and Altena, and various areas have been cleaned. The garbage that was disposed of, was registered in the Litterati-app, to gain insight into what garbage has been found.

The top 5 garbage found*:
1.         Cigarette butts
2.         Cans
3.         Packaging
4.         Bottles
5.         (Plastic) cups

“These efforts have enabled companies to contribute their part to keeping the environment clean. By means of informing schools, associations and such, Oerlemans Packaging want to make people aware not to throw garbage onto the street. The problem is and will be a mentality problem. Plastic is too valuable to just discard.”
