The AIPH 70th Annual Congress took place from 17-22 September 2018 in Padova, Italy. This Congress was organised with the support of AIPH member in Italy, ANVE. The Congress was organized alongside the Flormart trade fair in Padova.
The Turkish Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters Association was represented at the congress by Chairman of the Board Mr. İsmail Yilmaz, and Board Member Mr. Umut Sakarya.
For the 70th anniversary of AIPH a special celebratory dinner on the evening of 18th September was organized with participation of all AIPH members.
The Congress included the AIPH International Horticultural Expo Conference, AIPH International Green City Conference, a visit to the Flormart Trade Fair and visit to the Botanic Gardens in Padova. Professional visits to Pistoia were made after the congress.
The General Assembly took place on 19th September 2018, where the opening of the agenda was conducted by AIPH president Mr. Bernard Oosterom. The report of the general secretary included developments within AIPH and progress in implementing the Strategic Plan.
AIPH Board elections were made for the following positions:
- Mr. Bernard Oosterom (Netherlands) was elected as President
- Mr. Qixiang Zhang (P. R. China) was elected Vice-President
- Mr. Tim Edwards (UK) was elected Vice-President
- Mr. Bill Hardy (Canada) was elected Chair of Green City Committee
- Mr. Gijs Kok (Netherlands) was elected Representative Region II
- Ms. Karen Tambayong (Indonesia) was elected Representative Region VIII
- Mr. Takuhiro Yamada (Japan) was elected Vice-Chair of Exhibitions Committee
After the elections, the Green City Committee Report, Ornamentals Production Committee report and AIPH Novelty Protection and Exhibitions Committee Report were also represented. In the last session, decisions on applications for International Horticultural Exhibitions for Kahramanmaras, Turkey 2023 (B) and Australis Sydney, Australia 2022/23 (B) were made and both Expos were accepted with majority of members.
