Turkey: Fluctuation in Turkish currency cut down 30 % of the profit margin of exporting growers

The growers in Antalya, the most important production region in Turkey for cut flowers, have not upped their price despite the increase of costs of their many production items such as chemicals and fertilizers.

Mid-Anatolian Ornamental Plants Association President Ismail Yilmaz: “The profit margin of the growers went down by 30 %, our costs are rising constantly and we hope for some kind of assistance regarding the costs of some of these items. Some of the items from production such as chemicals and fertilizers are imported thus the loss of value in Turkish currency is causing a rise in growers’ production costs.

Our export prices remain at the same level thus this increase in production costs comes out of our profits. We hope that soon the currency rate problems will stop and the fluctuation will stabilize.“
