Collective farm Teplichniy is the biggest greenhouse grower in the Far East. The main products are cucumbers and tomatoes, but roses are also grown here.
In January of this year, they completed a big project and have opened a fourth phase of the greenhouse complex. The complex has replaced 6 ha of old greenhouses built 40 years ago. Now they are planning to expand the rose nursery and construct a gas boiler house.
“Last year the vegetable crop yield amounted to 130 kg per square meter, this year we are planning to increase it to 170 kg. We had a task to provide the residents of Sakhalin with vegetables all year round and we coped with it. We also deliver produce to Kamchatka and Amour region”, noted the director of the collective farm, Mr. Pavel Butkov.
The greenhouses have contemporary equipment, watering and nutrition systems, making it possible to regulate the lighting level, temperature and ventilation.
The rose nursery, arguably the most beautiful part of the collective farm, has grown flowers that decorated the Eastern Economic Forum. The 'queen of flowers' is located on an acreage of 0.6 thousand square meters, which will be increased next year to 1 thousand square meters.
“We have been growing roses for more than 10 years now. They are in great demand; the residents of Sakhalin prefer big roses with long stems”, reports the assistant team supervisor, Ms. Svetlana Avdeeva. “Our flowers are cheaper than the imported ones and for holidays we make special promotions”.
