NL: Hydrangea grower Dijk van Dijk celebrates ‘Master Grower Status'

Last Friday there was a big party at the Dutch Hydrangea grower Dijk van Dijk. The occasion was the launch of the new corporate identity, presentation of three new masterpieces as well as a sneak preview of a very special novelty.

Robin van Dijk the face of his own brand
For growers of Dijk van Dijk - active since 1927 - it was time for a change. Robin is together with his brother Marc of the third generation at Dijk van Dijk, so the master grower status is in their blood. Special was the new brand that was introduced last Friday, March 10th: Robin as ‘Master Grower' himself as the face of the brand.Robin: "In this age of transparency, people want to hear the real story behind a brand. And we have a lot to tell. So we like to take our customers along in the stories that originate in our greenhouses - a kind of 'Hydrangea Wonderland'. As master growers we ensure that we are the most innovative and reliable player in the growing of specialty hydrangeas, ‘masterpieces’ as we call them."

Why Master Grower?
Robin: "Master stands for sharing of knowledge and to learn from each other. Firstly, we try to think and feel as the plant itself; we learn from the plant. Secondly, we share our knowledge with our colleagues and customers, so we can grow together. Thirdly, we are very eager to learn, we do all kinds of tests to keep on improving in our profession."

Master Grower meets Master BBQ-er
The introduction of the new brand was festive. Master Grower Robin shared the stage with none other than BBQ master Jord Althuizen of Smokey Goodness, the BBQ cook well-known from TV and his cookbooks. Both are passionate craftsmen who recognize a lot in each other's working methods. "You have to live the brand,” according to Jord, "in other words, keep your feet between the plants, because this is only possible when you 'breathe' your brand and when you are authentic.”

Smoked Hydrangea
The meeting between the two was for Dijk van Dijk a reason to come up spontaneously with a novelty: the Smoked Hydrangea. Besides Dijk van Dijk's 'masterpieces' in new style, with poetic names like 'Love', 'Curly Wurly' and 'Magical', Jord had the honor to receive the first Smoked Hydrangea. The first 'blackened' hydrangea ever, who has gotten a very cool look with its black flowers. It will be a while before this masterpiece will be introduced to the market. 'Be patient. Beautiful things will happen.’ As you can read on the new website (www.dijkvandijk.nl).

It's magic when everything comes together
Preparations have taken more than two years, it took a while before Robin got used to the idea that he would become the face of his brand. The brand builders particularly in floriculture: Miranda van Kester (Mirakuleus), Sandra van der Knaap (Fleurt Marketing) and Dorien van den Berg (Natural Styling) managed to persuade him. And they are, just as Robin himself, very proud of all the positive comments so far.


This was followed by a great party: here Jord Althuizen and Robin van Dijk who recognized a lot in each other's mastery and passion for their profession.

After the official unveiling of the new brand by the whole team of Dijk van Dijk, the band Sven Hammond (known from tv) performed. The festivities took place in the greenhouse surrounded by the beautiful hydrangeas.
