UK: BPPC Spring Open Day

Join AHDB for the informal spring open days where growers will have the opportunity to catch up with and comment on the trials that are currently taking place at the Bedding and Pot Plant Centre.

The team from ADAS will be on hand to provide details about the current trials and answer any questions. This will be a great opportunity to contribute to the planning of future work within the bedding and pot plant sectors and a chance to network with others in the industry.

Current trials include:

Improving Cutting Success
Improve successful plant production from un-rooted vegetative cuttings of Geranium Zonal Green Leaf Series 'Bianca'.

Overwintered Perennials
Examining the production of seed-grown herbaceous perennials to increase the flowering product range available for early spring marketing.

Spectral Filters (glass coatings)
Testing the light transmission and spectra data of treated glass panels. This work was completed in 2016, however this will be a chance to catch up on the trial.

There will also be an update provided of project CP 158:

AMBER (Application & Management of Bio-pesticides for Efficacy & Reliability)
Benchmarking research on botrytis control in cyclamen & thrips control on pot chrysanthemum.

Updates will also be provided on other trials planned for 2017.

A formal open evening at the Bedding and Pot Plant Centre is also planned for June to coincide with the HTA Plant Show, at Stoneleigh Park.

The Bedding and Pot Plant Centre has been created to address the needs of the industry via a programme of work carried out to trial and demonstrate new product opportunities and develop practical solutions to technical problems encountered on commercial nurseries.

Tours will begin at 11am & 2pm on each of the informal spring open days.
