Leadership opportunities in Australian green industry

Amid the rise and rise of Australia’s turf and nursery sectors, Horticulture Innovation Australia is offering more than 15 funded opportunities for industry workers to grow their leadership skills.

Being supported through industry levies and funds from the Australian Government, the program will challenge participants to reflect on what is expected of them as modern rural leaders.

Horticulture Innovation Australia chief executive John Lloyd said now is an opportune time to take advantage of this customised opportunity.

“Australia’s green industries are working harder than ever, with nursery now worth $1.13 billion annually and more than 45 million metres square of turf produced each year,” he said.

“Pleasingly, the community and decision makers are becoming more aware of the health and wellbeing benefits of living among urban green spaces.”

“This unique course provides leaders and aspiring leaders with the skills required to ensure their activities are positioned at the forefront of this growth.”

Being delivered through training provider, The Right Mind, the three-month course will be conducted online with phone/webinar contact and mentoring, giving participants an opportunity to put their new skills to the test within their own business. Two face-to-face sessions in Sydney and Brisbane are also required. Session travel and accommodation costs will be at the participants’ own expense.

As part of the course, participants will learn to:
  • Define their leadership style
  • Manage conflict and shape team culture
  • Communicate decisions and expectations
  • Nurture physical and mental well-being
  • Assess and enhance their mentoring and coaching skills, and more.
Applications close Friday, May 5. See the course brochure. For more information and to apply online go to The Right Mind website.
