First Aleia Roses at the Dutch auction

The first roses of Aleia Roses have been auctioned last Friday. A few months ago the Spanish grower opened the doors of a hypermodern, 14-hectare greenhouse complex in the Spanish countryside. Red Naomi is grown there and they hope to produce 40 million stems annually. The release of the first stem (as yet of A2 quality, but it is hoped to have A1 available soon) was celebrated on Thursday April 6 with colleagues and buyers at the auction in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands.

Around half past 10, Supervisory Board member Dirk Hogervorst, owner Luis Corella and sales manager Will Zuiderwijk held a short presentation. After that Iberico ham and a Spanish lunch were served.

Nursery
The nursery is located in an area with a very favorable climate (elevated and with lots of sun). The greenhouses are built and designed in cooperation with leading companies from the Netherlands and are fitted with the latest equipment from the Netherlands as well. More information about the (launching of the) nursery can be found here (in Dutch).

The roses in the greenhouses of Aleia Roses are grown on substrate. Recycling of rainwater results in the reduction of water consumption of up to 50%. In addition to the application of integrated pest control, the nursery also wins back CO2 by the burning of natural gas. Moreover, the nursery offers jobs to people with disabilities.

Roses
It is the intention to deliver A1 quality ASAP. The stems will be divided into three quality segments: Reia (now A2, but soon also under A1 quality available), Aleia and Aleia Maxima. Flowers will be available in stem lengths of 90, 80, 70, 60 and 50 cm.
