"Chain-wide approach prevents revenue loss"

Each link in the chain brings with it a number of risks that can lead to loss of revenue. Some of the flowers are imported from abroad and therefore have already been exposed to possible temperature differences and ethylene gases. From the growers, flowers are distributed to the auctions and exporters and then again exported to the wholesale trade, at home and abroad. Here too, the risks can cause the flowers to spoil so that they are no longer suitable for sale.

Armed with this knowledge, Hilverda De Boer applies a number of solutions that need to prevent loss of potential earnings, including ethylene filters, moisture absorbers and data recorders. They also work closely with Praxas, a company that has been active in the flower sector for 15 years and specializes in solutions for the prevention of (risks of) extra costs and loss.

According to Bart Verduin, you avoid loss of revenue by raising awareness of risks throughout the chain and by applying proven solutions. "By looking closely at a chain-wide approach, whereby the various links pursue a common goal, Praxas ensures as little deterioration and as high a quality as possible. To create this awareness, Praxas has offered to share their knowledge by giving a presentation specifically directed at Hilverda De Boer."

The prevention of revenue loss plays a major role at Hilverda De Boer and that was evident from the attendance at the presentation. Martin Jansen, who is responsible for the quality assurance of the Aalsmeer exporter, is pleased with the involvement of his colleagues: "That 35 employees from various departments made time for this, indicates that quality awareness is very much significant to the company. Ultimately you need all the eyes in the company to spot and prevent quality issues. Bart Verduin responded well by mentioning all the steps of the process in his presentation."

Martin Jansen is convinced that Praxas and Hilverda De Boer can strengthen each other to raise quality to an even higher level. "So we apply a number of Praxas solutions that prevent damage during transportation to, for example, chrysanthemums and cymbidiums.

In the future, together with Praxas, we intend to develop many more products that will improve the quality of our flowers."
