Kenya: Future of flower industry discussed at regional meetings

The Kenya Flower Council Members regional consultative meetings kicked off in Nairobi on 24th and 25th April 2017 and in Naivasha on 26th and 27th. The aim of the meetings scheduled to take place every quarter is to update and discuss various issues affecting the flower industry.

The first day was a technical meeting targeting Human Resource Managers, internal auditors and marketing Managers/Officers followed by a Chief Executives (CEOs) meeting on day two.

The forums provided an update on EAC EU Economic Partnership Agreement; the National Horticulture Traceability System; the internationalization of the KFC Silver facilitated by Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI); challenges facing the flower industry and the way forward.

In attendance were the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS), the Horticulture Crop Directorate (HCD), Agricultural Employers Association, Pest Products Control Board (PCPB, Ministry of Labour, National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA)(through the ‘Best Business Practices for Children’ project) and the Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) Program through the HERProject.

Coming up will be the Mount Kenya region meetings scheduled to take place on 4th and 5th May, 2017. All the meetings have been graciously sponsored by Elgon Kenya Limited, Bayer East Africa and Seagon Insurance Brokers, Associate Members of the Kenya Flower Council.
