The Greenhouse Research and Production Complex (GRPC) in Brooks is operated and managed by the Greenhouse Section within the Crop Research & Extension Branch of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. We conduct research projects, develop new technologies, and provide resources and solutions for greenhouse industry growth in Alberta.

If so, here is your opportunity to join our team working out of a state-of-the art research greenhouse facility in Brooks, Alberta. 

As the Greenhouse Operations Lead you will oversee all operational functions of the high-tech greenhouse complex, including climate settings, irrigation and fertilization systems, pest and disease management, facilities and equipment maintenance, and crop work. You will have full supervisory responsibility for the technical team including establishing standards and priorities, training, orientation, scheduling and assigning work. In addition, as the lead research technologist, you will provide support and services for the research trials and projects conducted in the complex, including collecting samples, assisting with data/statistical analysis, conducting literature reviews and assisting with scientific papers. 

Your strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills will contribute to your success with the team and in working closely with external clients. Your technical knowledge in agriculture and horticulture, including plant physiology, agronomy or crop science and familiarity with pests and diseases in the greenhouse environment will be beneficial in the research aspects of this position.

Salary: $2,780.23 - $3,660.46 bi-weekly ($72,564 - $95,538 per annum). Closing Date: Open until suitable candidate is selected. Job ID #1045322

Qualifications: A two-year diploma in a related field, such as production horticulture, plus a minimum of seven years hands on crop problem-solving capacity and commercial greenhouse related production experience is required. A completed related University degree is preferred. Supervisory experience is also necessary. Experience in greenhouse climate control for operating computerized control systems such as heating and cooling, humidity control, lighting, and irrigation systems is required. Experience with fruit and vegetable production is preferred. Equivalences will be considered. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification.
