And the winners of the Proflora prizes are...

At the Proflora flower show, that took place last week, over 400 varieties were on display and many growers and breeders participated in the Outstanding Varieties Competition. National and international cut flower experts were members of the jury and evaluated the different varieties. The competition was divided into two categories: the flower quality competition for growers and the flower quality competition for breeders. On top of these prizes, one company was awarded as Overall Grand Champion, one as Grand Champion grower and one as Grand Champion breeder.

  • Grand Champion

Juan Camilo Herrera of Jardines de los Andes. This Colombian grower won the highest award 'Grand Champion' for its Charmelia over all other flowers in the competition.

  • Grand Champion growers


Olga Perdomo and Michael Vaughan of Grupo Andes Farms holding their awards. They are the Grand Champion Growers with their rose called Red Eye.

  • Grand Champion breeders

Juaquin de la Torre and Lourdes Reyes of Ball Colombia. They are Grand Champion among the breeders with the delphinium Dark Angel, bred by Agriom. (Ball Colombia is Agriom's agent in South America).


The other winners of the quality competition for growers are:
  • Alstroemeria

Camilo Bazzami of La Plazoleta holding the first prize in "Best in Category" for their alstroemeria Himalaya and the second price for their alstroemeria Palermo. The third prize was awarded to Maxiflores with their variety called Nadya.

  • Standard carnation

Celiar Morena of Geoflora. They won the first prize "Best in Category" for their variety Bengala. The second prize was awarded to Flores de la Hacienda with Mandela and the third to Flores Funza with Boheme.

  • Spray carnation


Eliana Carrascal (in the middle) from Turflor with visitors. This Colombian carnation and spray carnation grower won the first prize "Best in Category" in the category spray carnation for their Lollipop Violet. The second and third prize was awarded to Andaluci with their varieties Minuetto (second) and Tiramisu (third).


  • Disbud chrysanthemum


Sergio Arango of Flores el Capiro presenting the prizes that the company won during the show. In the category producers, their chrysanthemum Chipsa won the first prize in "Best in Category" in the category disbud chrysanthemum and Magnum, the second prize. The third prize was awarded to Yasa with their Anastasia Yellow.


  • Spray chrysanthemum


Miguel Vasquez of Grupo VegaFlor. For their spray chrysanthemum Veronica, they received the first prize "Best in category" in the category spray chrysanthemums. In the same category, they also won the third prize for their variety Minion. The Baltica of Flores el Capiro won the second prize.

  • Filler


Camilo Bazzani of La Plazoleta. In the category filler they won the first prize "Best in Category" for their Statice Super Purple. This was the only prize award in this category.

  • Focal - others


Celiar Morena of GeoFlora won the first prize "Best in Category" for their Ranunculo Hanoi. This was the only prize award in this category.

Focal - traditional


Juan Carlos and Alejandro of Aromas Farms. They won the first prize "Best in Category" in the category foliage with their hydrangea Blue Select. Avri Farms won the second prize with their hydrangea Saha Mini and Flores de la Campina the third with their Lirios Rosa Maria.


  • Foliage


Muyerly Pineda Mendez and Maria Clara Aguirre of Rosamina. They won the first and second prize for two of their Leucadendrum varieties; Jester Punto 1 (first) and Inka Gold Spray (second). The third prize was awarded to Tropiflowers Group for their Cordellini Ti leaves.

  • Garden Rose

This rose also received the first price for "Best in Category" in the category breeders. The second prize was awarded to Alexandra Farms with their variety Princess Kishi and the third was awarded to Flores Funza with the variety Dory.

The team of Circasia with their first prize "Best in Category" they won for their Silantoi in the category Standard roses. The second prize was awarded to Flores Prisma for their variety Magic Times and the third to Flores Sagaro for Moody Blues.

  • Spray Rose


Raul Marrera and Victor Giorgini of Equiflor presenting their first prize "Best in Category" for their spray rose Porcelina in the category spray rose. The second prize was awarded to Hosa International for their variety Mariah and the third to Maxiflora for Bellalinda cerise.

  • Semifocals - others



Juan Camilo Herrera of Jardines de los Andes. The team of Phytotec holding the first prize "Best in Category" they received for their variety Leavis in the category semi focal others. The second prize was awarded to La Plazoleta for their snapdragon Potomac and the third to Flores de la Campina for their mini calas Lia.

The other winners of the quality competition for breeders are:

  • Alstroemeria


Luis Mariano Botero of Plantas y Bulbos with John Damen and Kees Gran of Royal Van Zanten. With their alstroemeria Posh Pink, they won the first prize "Best of Category" in the category astroemeria and they also won the second prize for an alstroemeria that still has a code. The third prize was awarded to Flores La Serena for the variety Pinkpop.

  • Standard carnation


Celiar Morena of SB Talee with the first prize "Best in Category" in the category carnations for their Lavender Blue. Propagator Plantas won the second and third award for their variety Siloe (second) and Eco (third).

  • Spray carnation


Gianfranco Fenoglio and Mauricio Jiminez of La Villetta. They won the first prize "Best in Category" for their spray carnation that still has a code. The second prize was awarded to Hilverda Kooij's Doobadoo and the third for Plantas y Bulbos' F813.

  • Disbud and spray chrysanthemum


Deliflor won a lot of prizes in the "Best in Category". In the category breeders - disbud chrysanthemum, their Cochise won the first prize. In the same category, they won the second and third prize with varieties that still have a code. In the category spray chrysanthemum, their Roma Fests won the first prize. In the same category, their Kratos Appetit won the second prize and their variety called Yellow the third prize.

  • Gerbera


Traude Mundiger of Selecta one. Selecta one won the first prize "Best in Category" gerbera for their variety Manabi. The second and third prize was awarded to Ball Colombia for their varieties: Gerbera Dreamline (second) and Spot light (third).

  • Garden rose


The Colombian team of Royal De Ruiter Colombia presenting the first prize "Best in Category" they won for their Pink X-Pression in the category roses. In the same category, they also won the second prize for their variety Coral X-pression. (No third prize was awarded)

  • Standard rose


Lina Maria of Schreurs holding the first prize "Best in Category" they won for their rose variety called Wasabi in the category Breeders. The second prize was awarded to Wilson Alberto Gomez Gutierrez for the variety Copacabana and the third to Plantador Colombia for Enjoy.

  • Semifocals - others


Ohad Shafran of Danziger with the first prize "Best in Category" for their Scabiosa in the category semi focal others. The second prize was awarded to Ball Colombia for their Stock variety Spray Vintage Rose.

Semifocals - traditional


Juaquin de la Torre and Lourdes Reyes of Ball Colombia. They are Grand Champion among the breeders with the delphinium Dark Angel, bred by Agriom. (Ball Colombia is Agriom's agent in South America). This variety also won the first prize "Best in Category" in the category Semifocals. The second prize was awarded to Hilverda Kooij Colombia for their Dianthus variety Solomipio Cas.
