US: Rose Parade to promote Californian grown cut flowers
From San Diego to the Oregon border, more than 225 California flower farmers account for 75 percent of all domestically grown cut flowers in the United States. California grown flowers play a significant role not only in the history and beauty of the parade, but also in California's agricultural economy.
"This parade is an annual postcard-in-motion from California to the world, showcasing the most colorful crop our farmers grow," said CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. "It is fitting that Miracle-Gro's float will feature California Grown flowers as an inspiration to gardeners and flower lovers everywhere.
Harry VanWingerden, Ty Pennington and Mel Resendiz. The help of Ty Pennington was enlisted to return to Muir Ranch this holiday season and help with the expansion of a natural pollinator garden and to distribute fresh produce and Thanksgiving-themed food boxes to local families in need.
Two of California's Cut Flower Commission's (CCFC) flower farmers will be riding with reality TV star Ty Pennington on the MiracleGro float during the Rose Parade. Harry VanWingerden of Myriad Flowers in Carpinteria and Mel Resendiz of Resendiz Brothers Protea will be representing California’s flower farmers as MiracleGro’s MiracleGrowers on their float.

Once again this year, CDFA Secretary Karen Ross will certify the floats on Dec. 31. This means that at least 85% of the fresh cut flowers used on the float will be grown locally here in California. And with multiple floats and more attention than ever, CCFC is seeking volunteers to help with promoting our CA Grown floats.
Linda Giovannozzi of B-Fresh Floral (linda@bfreshfloral.com) is leading up the volunteer team of farmer Ambassadors this year. She is seeking farmers and their employees to help us share the CA Grown love with parade goers and Rose Bowl visitors during "Deco-Week."
The CCFC is seeking volunteers to help man the Cal Poly, FTD and MiracleGro floats, talking to visitors and explaining where California Grown Flowers are grown.
