That the Mexican floriculture industry has a lot of potential is no secret, and now a major step is about to be taken to capitalize on that potential. A group of entrepreneurs and visionaries of the ornamental industry in Mexico are preparing a 100 ha project under the name of FloraPark Amealco. They intend to start building in the first quarter of 2020 and finish it in three years. "It is the first agro park destined for the production of cut flowers throughout the country", says Mauricio Ricaud of Ricaud Greenhouses Consulting Group, who takes part in the project. "It will undoubtedly be an advanced, innovative and avant-garde project."

All under one roof
FloraPark Amealco will have a business model that basically corresponds to a physical space where producers and suppliers of goods and services in the floriculture and end-use industry are integrated. "It is basically a production unit where the different undertakings of production, processing, logistics and commercial intelligence come together under the same roof. And landscaping will be part of the project in all areas. This is a differentiating factor of this model and a key to its positioning."
Mexico as an exporter
The goal of this project is to turn Mexico into an excellent supplier of flowers and plants for different markets, not only nationally, where there's already solid demand at a good price level, but also internationally.
The town Amealco
100 ha 3-year project on 360 ha area
The project will have a size of 100 ha and will be located in the "magical town" of Amealco in the progressive Mexican state of Queretaro on an area of 360 hectares (almost 83% of the surface area of Queretaro's current protected agricultural area). "We intend to start building in the first quarter of 2020. In 3 years we will build 100 ha and probably another 100 ha in 7 years time." According to Ricaud, the location has everything in it to reach the above-mentioned goal. "The privileged geographical situation is based on its climate, its easy access and proximity to the main centers of national consumption and export, also having a nearby airport."
Economic and social development
On top of that, adds Ricaud, FloraPark's business will release important benefits to the sustainable municipal economic and social development. "Consolidating, thus, a production/logistics platform that takes care of the efficient use of resources such as energy and water. So also the management of costs and expenses. All developed with the intention of reducing the challenges of the logistics issue, strengthen the productive units with good alliances in each link of the value chain and to support the distribution networks."
Clean water
The design requires optimal use of inputs, especially of water. "The growth of the Mexican protected horticulture sector will depend on the availability of sources of clean and accessible water. On top of that, the high standards existing in export markets will be increasingly demanding, so that a reliable source of clean water is part of the establishment of a productive and successful system."
Specialists involved
The parties involved in the project are specialists, with each of them having more than 20 years of experience in different specialties of the world of flowers: plant material, production, post harvest management, greenhouse construction, logistics, administration and financial engineering, landscape design and marketing, among others. "This is required for a project of this nature."
