Chrysanthemums first step towards a glow-in-the-dark bouquet

An entire glow in the dark bouquet. That is the ambition of Gems Group. With a special paint, they can now supply a blue and a green chrysanthemum. More colors and varieties are being tested, according to Loreyna Molina. In March 2020 they expect it to be ready.

“We are testing the paint currently on chrysanthemums. Mums were the first floral varieties we thought of testing the paint on, because we have had great success dying them before using regular paint. The concept of glow in the dark works with flowers just as other products; The flowers charge themselves as long as they are in the light. The paint absorbs light, to emit it later. The paint we use is a non-hazardous, reactive paint that absorbs light and shines it back in the dark. The life span of the flower with the paint is two weeks, so it does not affect the vase life."
