Turkey: Greenhouses in Yalova damaged by heavy rain

Plant and vegetable greenhouses in the Kocadere region in Yalova, one of the main pot plant production areas in Turkey, were damaged by heavy rain and subsequent flood.

Yalova is located in northwestern Turkey, and this small city is filled with greenhouses. Growers there have sustained significant damages as a result of the heavy rain. The city officials are already working to get an estimate on the damage, and some growers have reportedly lost 80,000 to 100,000 pot plants. At least 50 growers are negatively affected by this event, and 6 growers noted that their damage is well over 200,000 USD. Another grower remarked that his loss is around 40,000, whereas another one claimed that his loss is easily over 100,000 USD.

In some greenhouses 70% of the products were lost, and the growers are waiting for the state to offer them some sort of support.
