Jiffy to build large new substrate manufacturing plant in Holland

Heembouw is soon to start the realisation of a new manufacturing plant for Jiffy International in the Netherlands. The new plant will be located at the Oude Maasweg in Zwijndrecht, encompassing 25,000 m2 production area and 550 m2 office space as well as including a harbour facility.

‘Habeon Architects’ stands for the design of Jiffy’s new manufacturing location while consulting bureau and engineering consultancy ‘Uticon’ provides the architectural and process installation technology supervision for the project.

‘Troostwijk Real Estate’ has been responsible for supervising the transaction on behalf of Jiffy International. Jiffy’s new manufacturing plant has been included in an American Investor’s portfolio. 3Stone Real Estate, Houthoff Buruma and Search, supervised the transaction on behalf of the buyer.

Jiffy International is a leading worldwide supplier of environmentally friendly propagation systems, hydroponic systems, growing containers and substrates for the horticultural industry. By utilising renewable resources and bio-based materials such as peat, coir, pulp, other bio-mass and vegetable raw materials, Jiffy has been on the forefront of sustainability for many years and has substrate manufacturing locations strategically located near peat bogs in Canada, Estonia and Sweden. Additional production facilities are located in Sri Lanka, USA, Spain, Japan, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway, producing substrates, peat pots, Jiffy-7 pellets, Preforma propagation systems and, for the hydroponic industry, coir grow blocks and grow bags.

At the new location in Zwijndrecht, peat and other raw materials will be processed and mixed into high-quality substrates for the professional grower. The existing harbour basin will be converted into a sea port allowing coasters to dock at the new location. Heembouw will start with the pile driving work for the foundation beginning November.

Jiffy's new manufacturing location will be completed July 1st 2016.
