US (CA): Greenhouse Growers tour promises to smell great

It's time again to head to the Monterey Bay Area Greenhouse Growers open house tour. It's in its 6th year and continues to grow. The scale of these nursery operations is humbling — McClellan sends out millions and millions of orchids. The latest technology and organizational skill used to keep flowers and plants steadily moving into the market place is awe inspiring. This opportunity to purchase living plants and cut flowers is also great for your pocketbook. (Maybe dad would like a fruit tree for Father's Day.)

The Saturday, June 20 event begins at 10 a.m. and continues to 4 p.m. All sites on the tour are providing knowledgeable guides to walk with visitors through the greenhouses and processing facilities. Some have set up food for purchase. Bring your cameras and share your experience with those who couldn't join you.

As in most tours of working facilities, visitors should wear sturdy shoes and layered clothing. Car pooling is recommended.
