2014 annual Floriculture Survey:

"US: "Floriculture is alive and thriving in New Jersey"

Floriculture is alive and thriving in New Jersey, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture survey, which showed a 4 percent increase in floriculture sales in the state last year, the exact opposite of the overall national results, placing the Garden State sixth in the country with $196 million in sales in 2014.

Douglas H. Fisher, secretary of the state Department of Agriculture, announced the results of the 2014 annual Floriculture Survey on Wednesday morning at the Lennon Farm Greenhouses on Tuckerton Road.

“It’s a wonderful and important story that we get to tell about New Jersey agriculture,” Fisher said. “We have probably the most innovative farms in the country. And you really have to be. Farming is not easy.”

Lennon Farm Greenhouses, a wholesale provider of flowers, plants and vegetables, is an example of floriculture innovation in action, according to Fisher, who toured the property after the announcement.
