Germany: Room for exclusive assortment from peony and gladiola growers

There is still room at Veiling Rhein-Maas for peony and gladiola growers from the import countries to offer an exclusive assortment to enable customers to set themselves apart from others in further sales.

Each year approximately 4.5 to 5 million stems of the gladiola product are auctioned at Veiling Rhein-Maas. This is circa 10% of the total gladioli clock supply at all auctions.

Due to the cold weather in spring, the start of the Dutch gladioli season was delayed for a couple of weeks until the end of June/start of July. There is still room for good sales opportunities at Veiling Rhein-Maas for gladioli from Spain and Italy in the period up to and including July.

As regards peonies, 5 to 5.5 million stems are auctioned each year. This season, Veiling Rhein-Maas recorded a 33% supply increase in peonies from France. The supply from the import countries amounts to 15% of the total peony supply. Due to the cold and dry weather in spring, the German and Dutch peony supply started approx. two weeks later than usual. Partly due to this, the average peony price at Veiling Rhein-Maas increased this season by €0.02 to an average of €0.41. There is certainly room at Veiling Rhein-Maas to auction extra colours and an exclusive peony assortment from Israel, Italy and France in the period December up to and including May.
