US (NE): City to build greenhouse in Antelope Park

Lincoln Parks and Recreation officials want to build a nearly $115,000 greenhouse on the west end of Antelope Park south of A Street.

J.J. Yost, planning and construction manager for Parks and Rec, said the department plans to build the more than 4,000-square-foot greenhouse to store plant material for Sunken Gardens during the fall and winter months.

“It’ll also serve as a place to start new annuals for next year,” he said.

Now, the city pays two private nurseries to store plant material for the gardens during the colder months. Finke Gardens houses most of the display plants, including flowers, for Sunken Gardens and will continue to do so.
