Bangladesh: Flower farming faces setback due to heavy rainfall in Bogra

Around 120 proprietors of flower farming are incurring huge losses as the crop has been badly damaged due to heavy rainfall for the last several days in Bogra district as the flower plants can not stand more rainfall during growing.

The growers are frustrated as the crop has started rotting in their fields and they have to repay the loan, borrowed from Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank with interest, to produce the flowers in the land and homestead farming from the very beginning of the season while the paddy and other crops help to earn money.

While visiting a correspondent found that the farmers are worried about paying back the loan as the condition of flowers are not satisfactory at all. Flowers worth about Tk 0.5 million are traded at Mohasthan wholesale market everyday but now the figure stands at only Tk 0.1 million
