India for promoting commercial cultivation of flowers, ornamental plants
Minister for Gardens Parks and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has called for promoting commercial cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants in Jammu division, for which there is great potential and marketing opportunities.
Reviewing the functioning of the Floriculture Department at a meeting of officers held here on Sunday September 6, the Minister directed the officers to focus on the promotional and awareness aspects, by providing incentives to the farmers and motivating them to grow traditional as well as 'non-traditional floral crops and ornamental plants for commercial purposes. He stressed effective implementation of area expansion in floriculture activities under the Technology Mission, adding that it would support the farmers in terms of developing infrastructure like greenhouses, sheds etc with a minimum area of 100 sqm.
The minister stressed initiating effective steps for generating more income to run the department on profitable lines. The Floriculture department should emerge as an industry which would contribute something to the state economy and provide jobs to a large number of people.
