US (PA): Greencastle flower nursery pays it forward through flower-bucket challenge
At Hope Valley Gardens, guests can pick their own fresh flowers, and pick even more for free to give to someone else as part of the gardens' flower-bucket and pay-it-forward challenges.
Darlanna Besecker, owner of the nursery at 1032 Buchanan Trail East in Greencastle, said the pay-it-forward challenge stems from an initial flower-bucket challenge proposed by the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, an organization to which Valley Gardens belongs.
The flower-bucket challenge invited growers to take pictures of patrons with their bouquets as a way to encourage local flower support.
Besecker said the pick-your-own-flower event and the pay-it-forward challenge, as well as other services at the outdoor gardens, will continue until the first frost.
After picking and purchasing their flowers, customers can fill a pay-if-forward vase for free from noon to dusk.
