4 November, 2015 in County Antrim:
UK: HTA workshop to learn about future plant retailing
Following the success of Plant Retailing – Fit for the Future at Ball Colegrave in July, garden retailers and growers are invited to attend a free HTA workshop event, taking place at CAFRE, Greenmount Campus, Northern Ireland, looking at the future of plant retailing. The event takes place on Wednesday 4 November from 10.30am – 3.30pm at College of Agriculture Food & Rural Enterprise, 22 Greenmount Rd, Antrim, County Antrim BT41 4PU.
Plants remain at the core of garden retail businesses and provide a real point of difference from the competition. Is the industry however maximising the opportunity presented by the variety of plants on offer? Are there ways in which more sales can be driven?
This event will include a series of seminars covering the latest findings from eye tracker research showing how customers shop the plant area, plus top tips and examples to help grow plant sales and importantly profit from them.
Neil Cummings, Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) Regional Business Manager covering N.I, said, “I am very excited to see this event come to Northern Ireland. Growing and Garden Centre retailing have to move on in order to continue to attract a more demanding consumer. This seminar will give those attending an insight in to the future of Retailing and an opportunity to have their say on its direction.”
Speakers include David Denny, HTA, who will explore how customers shop in the plant area using the latest Eyetracker research. Andy Bunker of Alton Garden Centre will present a case study on his experience of running a plant area and how to attract the customers’ eye, whilst Kevin Waters will provide expert merchandising tips on how to make your store stand out above the rest.
The event is being organised with the support of College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise(CAFRE). David Kerr, Ornamental Development Adviser said “One of the biggest challenges for growers in a rapidly changing market is deciding what plant products to grow. This event is an opportunity for growers to learn more about what plants consumers are looking for and methods of presentation that improve sales.”
Registration from 10.30 for an 11.00 am start, and lunch will be provided. The event will run until 3.30pm after which there will be the opportunity to network.
