US (SC): Cyclamen hederifolium bloom in the winter

Elegant, charming and dainty are just a few of the adjectives I use to describe hardy Cyclamen hederifolium. These small, exquisite pink flowers have upright petals that make one think of fairy wings. This particular cyclamen blooms from September to December in our garden, brightening up an area with a carpet of flowers.

The flowers emerge first, each stem lasting for a week or more and are then followed by a succession of flowers. I often find the last little flower just before Christmas, but this is dependent on where you live and the weather, of course.

Cyclamen hederifolium has been given the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This is given to plants that are considered to be of “outstanding excellence.” This is meant to help gardeners chose plants that are of good garden value.
