US (NH): Poinsettias of many colors at UNH greenhouse

Autumn Leaves and Pink Candy are on display at the University of New Hampshire, in the form of creatively-named and colorful poinsettias being grown to test new varieties.

The Macfarlane Research Greenhouses are hosting the 10th annual Poinsettia Trials Open House through Saturday. Similar trials take place at universities and commercial greenhouses across the country to allow breeders to evaluate regional differences in the growth and performance of new plant varieties. Members of the public can help by recording their favorites, some of which go far beyond the traditional red to shades of pink, apricot and burgundy.

A selection of plants will be available for purchase throughout the holiday season.
