Is the word 'poinsettia' or 'poinsetta'?

The plant associated with Christmas is known as the poinsettia even though many people mispronounce the word and call it poinsetta. The poinsettia should be pronounced poin-set-tia. A poinsettia is a blossoming plant with beautiful red and green foliage, which makes it a very popular decoration during the Christmas holiday. The poinsettia is part of the decoration in houses, churches, stores, and office buildings during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The poinsettia is considered a symbol of purity because of its brilliant red color even though there are white poinsettias as well. The poinsettia is native to Mexico, but 90 percent of all poinsettias are exported from the United States.
