Vietnamese teacher strives to realize dream of Da Lat flower city replica
Residents of the Bay Nui (Seven Mountains) area, which spans the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, have been decorating their homes with dazzling flower varieties indigenous to Da Lat, the famous resort city in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, during the last three years.
The exotic floral products come from a farm run by Pham Huy Cuong, 35, who has been teaching at a local elementary school for 14 years.
His 3,000-square-meter farm, perched on top of Cam (Forbidden) Mountain, and part of the Bay Nui range, has by now yielded several thousand individual Da Lat breeds.
It normally takes at least 10 hours to transport flowers from Da Lat to An Giang.
This lengthy transportation process has undermined the flowers’ freshness no matter how carefully they are preserved.
Such a drawback has prompted Cuong to germinate Da Lat’s varieties right on Cam Mountain to cater to the burgeoning local demand.
