US: Federal registration for Syngenta Mural fungicide

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted federal registration of new Mural fungicide from Syngenta for use on pot and bedding plants, foliage plants, perennials, trees, shrubs and a wide variety of vegetable transplants. State registrations are pending. Mural contains two active ingredients: Solatenol, an advanced generation SDHI (succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor), and azoxystrobin, the proven active ingredient in Heritage fungicide.

“Mural is a convenient option for growers who need to manage disease across a wide variety of crops and growing environments,” said Laurie Riggs, ornamental market manager for Syngenta. “It provides higher performance at low use rates to deliver a robust, versatile solution for the most common and problematic root and foliar diseases.”

Mural offers growers the following features:
  • Labeled to control the widest range of ornamental diseases, including flower blights like Botrytis, leaf spots, powdery mildew and soilborne diseases such as Rhizoctonia and Fusarium.
  • Systemic and translaminar activity protects crops from root to leaf tip. Mural works its way up the plant into the foliage when applied as a drench to help protect and suppress the development of certain foliar diseases.
  • Labeled for use in greenhouses, shade houses, lath houses, outdoor nurseries and retail nurseries.
  • Can be applied as foliar spray, directed spray to the stem or base of plants, or by drench to containers.
“Solatenol is a new active ingredient developed by Syngenta that strongly binds to the plant’s waxy layer and slowly penetrates the tissue,” said Nancy Rechcigl, field technical manager for Syngenta. “This creates long-lasting disease control and, when combined with azoxystrobin, offers growers superior protection from root tips to leaves.”

Mural is formulated as a water-dispersible granule (WDG) using the advanced Pepite Technology process developed by Syngenta. This unique manufacturing method produces WDGs that dissolve immediately in water, providing convenience and efficiency for growers.
