US: Man charged with killing NC greenhouse owner in SC home
The Honduran immigrant charged with murder in the Jan. 6 shooting of a Charlotte greenhouse owner is scheduled for an extradition hearing Monday in Charlotte.
Kevin Mauricio Arita Dejesus, 21, of Charlotte, was charged with killing Jesse Campbell, 64, late Thursday after he was picked up by police in North Carolina. Dejesus remains in custody without bond at the Mecklenburg County jail, and is scheduled for an extradition hearing Monday afternoon as York County police and prosecutors seek to bring Dejesus to South Carolina to face murder charges.
Police have not released a motive for the crime or a link between Campbell, who owned Campbell’s Greenhouse and Nursery in Charlotte’s South End, and Dejesus. The arrest came two days before Saturday’s funeral for Campbell, a well-known former teacher at Myers Park High School who grew up in Shelby. His nursery has a devoted following of orchid lovers and other plant enthusiasts.
