New pot creates ideal office plant
Last week, at the IPM Essen, Van Krimpen presented a new series of pots. The series has interesting shapes: there are openings around the pot and on both sides there are triangle shaped cavities. The pots are especially designed for hydro plants; plants grown without soil. The plant stands in clay pebbles and water.
Plants grown in clay pebbles are more expensive than plants grown on soil. However, they are less sensitive to diseases and do not have to be watered that often. "In Europe, only a few growers are using this technique. Around five to ten," he estimates. "It is a nice market," says Swagemakers. Therefore this new series has been developed in close cooperation with these growers.
Why are these pots special? It's more than only the cavities/openings on the side, explains Swagemakers. "An advantage of houseplants grown in hydro culture is the water reservoir. In this way you can easily and precisely discover how much water the plant needs. With such a 'water level recorder', maintaining a plant becomes easier; ideal for in the office.
Currently, the series consists of five models.
