20 percent of Dutch flower bulb growers looking to expand

More than a fifth of Dutch flower bulb growers have plans to expand their activities. For the third year in a row, expansion plans are on the rise in the flower bulb industry. In 2012, 12.3% of flower bulb growers had expansion plans, according to the annual BloembollenScanner (Flower Bulb Scanner) from AgriDirect. During this telephone survey last November, around 850 flower bulb growers were asked about agricultural activities, future and investment plans.

Highest level expansion plans since 2010
During last year's survey, the highest level of expansion plans among Dutch flower bulb growers since 2010 (20.9%) was recorded. A new record following the previous highest level of 19.1% in 2011.

Level of successors virtually stabilized
34.4% of flower bulb growers (with a company head of 50 years or older) can count on a successor. 17.2% of successors are already part of the company, and 17.2% are ready to take over. In 2014, the total percentage of succession plans was 33.5%.
