White Wonder Mee, Flame 10½ cm with 10 cuttings:

New campanula and schlumbergera introduced on European market

This year, Danish Gartneriet PKM will put a new campanula and schlumbergera on the market. At the IPM Essen, Fairytale Flowers, the trademark of PKM, presented the two novelties; The campanula White Wonder Mee and the schlumbergera Flame 10½ cm with 10 cuttings. Gartneriet PKM produces 22 million pot plants a year, of which 90% is exported to the European market.

White Wonder Mee.

White Wonder Mee

The Campanula variety called White Wonder Mee is a compact plant with large white double flowers that can be used both indoors and outdoors. This perennial is developed by PKM’s own R&D department and can overwinter if planted in the garden bed no later than August. A 10.5 cm White wonder has approximately 500 buds.

White Flame and Red Flame.

Flame 10½ cm with 10 cuttings
Flame 10½ cm with 10 cuttings is a new concept. "The 10 cuttings means that we can offer a full plant with the same characteristics as a 9 and 11.5 cm: Traditionally, we plant three cuttings in a Ø 9 cm and 5 cuttings in a Ø 11½ cm, giving a narrow base and a wide top. With the new planting method, the whole plant is much more harmonious. More cuttings also mean more buds, and when each leaf typically provides between 2 to 3, the new 10½ cm will have up to 30 buds. The season runs from week 42 till week 50."

Fairytale Flowers
The trademark Fairytale Flowers was introduced by PKM in 2001. They put Hans Christian Andersen's profile in the logo. "This makes it easier for the customers to distinguish our products from those of other producers", says the company. PKM resides in Odense, which is Hans Christian Andersen's hometown. They wanted a recognizable trademark with links to the firm's history and roots. PKM's own history reminds them of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale about “The Ugly Duckling”. It had to go through an awful lot before it could see its own reflected image in the lake to realize that it had been transformed into a beautiful swan. PKM had some tough years at the start of the 90s, but with the help of good employees and a sharp focus on the right products they have passed through the crisis unhurt.

Gartneriet PKM A/S
Gartneriet PKM A/S was founded by Poul and Marie Madsen in 1948. PKM's production area covers 190,000 sqm of greenhouses and an outdoor area of 40,000 sqm. The nursery is located north of Odense. Here 200 employees produce 22 million pot plants a year, of which 90% is exported to the European market.
