Canada: Excursion shows eb and flood systems without concrete

Over seventy people attended the excursion that cultivation floor manufacturer ErfGoed organized on March 4th for growers in the province of Ontario, Canada. It began with a presentation from grower Gerard Schouwenaar, of Orchid Park Growers in St. Catharines. He talked about the collaboration with ErfGoed during the installation of the cultivation floor. As he has just got his first crop on the floor, he restricted himself to an initial impression. "What I can see now is really good. The crop is in excellent condition. Among other things, I had said that I didn't want any more puddles on my floor, so as to prevent all sorts of diseases. Well, there's absolutely no question of that any more."

Once the party had taken a look in the glasshouse, they went on to Meijers Fruit Farms. There, the ErfGoedFloor has just been installed, and they were busy filling it. According to Peter Vos of ErfGoed, the grower was pretty skeptical at first about how practical the surface was for vehicle movements. "Here, they assumed that that would only be possible with a concrete surface. With this ErfGoedFloor, we have been able to prove the opposite. Fork-lifts were driving to and fro last Friday, filling the floor with the new crop."

According to Vos, the visitors were very positive about the initiative. "It seems that they aren't so used to this way of being able to look round the neighbors' premises here. Many growers had said in advance that they were, indeed, interested in the concept of our cultivation floors, but that they wanted to wait and see these two floors first. These are actually the two big growers, who are well known in the sector. So it was a chance for the visitors to see the advantages that the ErfGoedFloor offers at first hand."
