Dutch nursery compares itself to bakery
"The flowering plants we grow are a collection of different tastes. There is a fresh range to choose from every day, same as in a bakery," says Martijn Vreugdenhil, who joined the team of directors 2 years ago. Four years ago, Arie Strijbis, his son Jelle Strijbis and Sander Verbeek transformed their company from Strijbis-Verbeek to SV.CO in order to enhance their international reputation. Martijn entered from their sales team. The bakery comparison is applied to every department of SV.CO, from their presentation at exhibitions today to new developments tomorrow.
Cookie jar
Nearly every year, the 4 men from SV.CO are nominated for the Glass Tulip Award, the prize for the best market introduction. Martijn says: "We spend a lot of time in innovation and are therefore frequently nominated. This year, we finished at 3rd place but one day, we will win this baby!" Innovation is also one the company’s core values, he continues. "The joy we have in innovating, we also love to carry out to others. We regularly add new delicacies to our cookie jar," he says with a wink.
Transparency
SV.CO works with MPS Product Proof. This is a product guarantee, with which a grower can prove the lack of pesticide usage in his operation. Martijn: "The demands of customers or consumers aren’t always mutual, it’s often individual. SV.CO wants to fulfill both requirements and therefore offers transparency about the origin of all our products." In addition, SV.CO only uses sustainable packing material and all the soil used, contains compost.
