CA (BC): Counting down to first Abbotsford Tulip Fest

It’s the time of year when you can’t pass a corner store without seeing “3 bunches for $10” signs on buckets of tulips.

While the perennial posies are pretty in planters and vases, they are absolutely fantastic growing in open fields, which is what you’ll be able to see over the next six weeks at the Abbotsford Tulip Festival (abbotsfordtulipfestival.ca).

The inaugural event is the brainchild of Lakeland Farms’ Alexis Warmerdam, a third-generation Fraser Valley flower grower.

“People are looking for a way to get back to the farm,” she says, “so I think these agri-tourism things, whether it’s a corn maze or a pumpkin patch or picking strawberries or an apple barn or picking your own tulips at a U-pick field… people are looking for that experience.”
