Taiwan orchid show garners NT$9.7 billion in export orders

Exhibitors at the 2016 Taiwan International Orchid Show received NT$9.7 billion (US$297.5 million) in export orders, down slightly from the NT$10.01 billion in orders they received at last year's show, official statistics showed.

In reviewing this year's orchid show on Monday, Tainan Mayor Lai Ching-te said he was satisfied with this year's results but expected better next year.

Certain factors existed that adversely influenced the show this year, Lai said, including the cold and wet weather during the exhibition period and a deadly earthquake that rocked Tainan a month before the exhibition began.

He also said he was especially dissatisfied with criticism leveled at the show by two city councilors while it was going on.
