Sneak peek California Spring Trials

The California Spring Trials is a week-long event held at various locations throughout California, from April 9-14. Breeders, growers and suppliers will showcase their newest varieties and products.

The Coreopsis grandiflora ‘Solar Dance’ is a new variety of Cultivaris. It is a compact plant that flowers from June to October. The flowers are semi-double with a lemon yellow color. At the California Spring Trials, Sunset Western Garden Collection will introduce the ‘Killer Cranberry’ Salvia. This plant has many magenta flowers on tall spikes that lure honeybees and hummingbirds. According to the breeder, its prolific flowers are a killer attraction for people too. The plant has dense, fragrant foliage, is long –blooming and drought resistance. It can be used in boarders, garden beds and containers and can be placed in full sun to part shade. Dümmen Orange will introduce a new begonia at the California Spring Trials; the ‘Unbelievable Tweetie Pie’. This variety features hybrid breeding for better branching and a medium-compact habit. The Calendula Power Daisy Sunny is the novelty of Kientzler and is bred by David Kerley. Power Daisy Sunny has been selected for its high mildew tolerance and excellent flower performance from early spring to late autumn. With good branching and a compact habit with many flowers throughout summer it fits for containers and baskets. Power Daisy Sunny is exclusive with Kientzler North America. Florensis - Leucanthemum Ooh La Lagrande



The new Lagrande of Florensis is a pure white, first year flowering perennial that requires no vernalization and flowers about one week earlier than Lacrosse. Ooh La Lagrande has a large first flower and many secondary flowers follow shortly, giving it a long shelf life at retail. This new Leucanthemum is naturally compact, good for quarts or three in a gallon.
