NL: Phalaenopsis and roses successful during early Easter

In comparison with the Easter weekend last year, around 7% more flowers and plants were traded at FloraHolland. The average price level was 3% lower, however. This led to the total revenue for Easter 2016 being 4% higher than last year.

Cut flowers
The revenue for flowers just exceeded last year's level. The supply was good (+6.7%), but the average price of 20.6 cent lay 6% lower. This was primarily due to a larger supply of tulips that were sold at a lower price than last year. This strongly depressed the average price of cut flowers. In contrast, roses showed a great improvement in revenue due to a good combination of quantity and price-setting.

Plants
Due to the high prices commanded by Phalaenopsis, Easter 2016 will be known for the group of houseplants as a successful holiday. In comparison with Easter 2015, almost 13% more turnover was achieved due to 9% more items sold at an almost 3.5% higher price. Narcissus and pot roses did especially well in terms of quantity.

Garden plants' revenue was about 3% less than last year. Aside from the early time of the season, this was also due to an extremely large supply of violets that strongly depressed the average price realised.
