US (CT): Grower breeds fragrant Roses for Autism

The greenhouses at Roses for Autism are filled with fresh, fragrant heirloom roses. Up until now, the only way to enjoy these locally grown flowers was to have them packaged up and enjoyed, for a limited time, in a vase.

Now, the sweet scent of the Lavande rose has been bottled with the launch of Ardent Rose perfume.

Since 2009, the nonprofit organization Roses for Autism, in partnership with its parent company, Ability Beyond, has helped more than 100 individuals with autism gain valuable hands-on work experience at the historic Pinchbeck Farm.

Located on 38 acres, the heated greenhouse grows and sells a variety of fresh-cut flowers including roses, lilies and Gerbera daisies.

“They sent us a large bouquet of the Lavande roses for inspiration, beautiful lavender-colored roses,” says perfumer Donna Ramanauskas, of Robertet Inc.

“They’re beautiful. They have like this vibrant, almost lavender, purple color.”

Yet it was the fragrance of the roses that immediately caught the attention of the perfumer.
