US (CT): Woodstock human services group expands horticulture program
Laura St. Jean, who created the horticulture program, said it’s proved very popular with clients.
“They love it,” she said. “They get to see the whole process, from seed planting to harvest. Some of the vegetables we use for our culinary program and we’ve also sold bunches of cut flowers outside the facility.”
St. Jean said a greenhouse would allow the group to grow a bigger variety of flowers and food even during the winter months.
“We already sell cut flowers to local restaurants and we'd like to expand that, as well as start a farmers market with set days and hours,” she said. “That money we raise goes right back to the organization.”
