Kenya’s floriculture from a celeb florist’s view

Kenya is one of the top flower exporters in the world, exporting flowers worth approximately more than half a billion U.S. dollars in 2013. Jeff Leatham, Celebrity Florist and Artistic Director at the Four Seasons Hotel in Paris spoke to CNBC Africa about the colourful and growing potential of the industry on the continent.

"I really think it’s huge, I think that I have used flowers from Kenya before - I think it is all about getting florals designers, such as myself and others that have a voice to getting them to use them more in high profile weddings so that people know that there’s great flowers coming from Kenya,” said Leatham.

Leatham has had great success in the industry designing for luxury brands, such as Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bulgari, Philip Treacy, Swarovski Crystal, Givenchy, Ellie Saab, Burberry, Tiffany & Co, Waterford Crystal and Dom Perignon, as well as celebrities Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey, Avril Lavigne, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, the Kardashians and Celine Dion and the Dalai Lama.

"Local industry is so important, we deal with that everywhere, in Europe, in the United States - that's a huge part of the election that's going on right now is creating jobs within our country, with export - so I think it is amazing and I think it's great,” said Leatham.
