US (KY): Greenhouse prepares students for ag industry

Watered and cared for each day, rows and rows of plants — 50,000 — fill this greenhouse. It's up to McCracken County High School students like Abigail Shick to manage it.

"You learn a lot about it. You learn how to get it from seeds to actual plants," Shick said.

Students do everything in the greenhouse from start to finish. The plants arrive at the greenhouse as seedlings and grow to fill baskets.

"Agriculture in this area is huge. It's economically a major impact in western Kentucky. We have several students who will be farmers that aren't going to college," said Agriculture teacher Zach Hobbs.

Hobbs says one fourth of the school's students are in the agriculture program. Students will start selling the plants they've grown to give them even more experience in the field.
