Premix Prestop into growing media for added benefits
Alternatively, or in addition as required, Prestop can be applied by drench via a dosatron, to provide protection against fungal root diseases, or sprayed onto plants to provide protection from foliar fungal diseases.
“More than ever growers are under pressure to produce quality crops within a short period at a competitive price,” says ICL technical manager Andrew Wilson. “This is becoming even more challenging with the loss of many chemical fungicides making it harder to keep plants healthy. Plant protection products like Prestop, that can be incorporated in to growing media mixes, are proving popular as they offer tangible benefits - including helping to keep labour costs down.”
A registered biofungicide, Prestop contains the mycelia and spores of a highly aggressive naturally occurring soil fungus Gliocladium catenulatum Strain J1446. Able to survive in the rhizosphere, around the roots, and on foliage for several weeks, it attacks and suppresses a wide range of pathogens.
“Safe for beneficials and compatible with many pesticides, Prestop can be incorporated in to IPM programmes,” explains Andrew. “Unlike many chemical products, it does not cause plant scorch, there is no worker re entry interval and no harvest interval.”
Enfield-based Clockhouse Nursery is already incorporating Prestop in to its Levington Advance Solutions bespoke mixes. This year the 13-acre nursery will produce over 1 million quality patio and bedding plants, perennials, shrubs and trees, as well as fruit and vegetables to be sold through its busy plant-focused retail unit.
"We are constantly on the lookout for time and labour saving innovations," says owner David Mills. "I am delighted with the results achieved using Prestop, damping off has almost been eliminated from the nursery."
