"NL: "Without a physical clock there is no floriculture industry"
Manager of VBW, the Association for florists and retailers, Marco Maasse spoke on behalf of florists. Years ago, florists expressed their worries about the future of the physical clock. VBW came with support and finally a vision for the physical clock was produced, which was shared by VBW.
Figures reflect the significance of the florists. The market share of florists in sales is 52% (stable) and for plants 28% (increasing). This makes florists a real factor. They deserve more attention from the chain, the product and the system of selling.
Beside objections such as leading to a narrower choice of products and services; not being able to smell, see or taste the product; missing meeting the grower; not being able to buy together with other florists, florists also see scope for trading via the digital clock (KOA), however mainly for commodities. The special and particular products must be marketed via the physical clock.
Without a physical clock there is no real future for the florist and without the florist there is no floriculture industry! However, it is not clear if FloraHolland really intends to abandon the traditional, physical clock. To receive an answer to this; on June 2nd we will know more.
