CA (MB): Emerson Greenhouse closes after 22 years

This will be the final season for the Emerson Greenhouse.

Owner Sandra Pappel has decided to close the business, which has been in operation for 22 years.

"There's a bunch of things that led to the decision," she said. "Family, farming - we increased the farm size, heating system for this place, repairing plastic, a bunch of different things and it's been in our retirement plan since day one. I've gone two years over our limit already and it's time to help my husband and son on the farm."

Looking back, Pappel says she is amazed to see how the greenhouse has grown over the years.

"It started one afternoon at coffee discussing how I could stay home and raise our family and still be with them and not off the farm," she said. "I started with a little greenhouse in the farm yard and about 10 years into it my husband decided it was time to move it because it had grown too big already for the farm yard....I'm going to miss it when it's gone but it's time for that change."
