Biobased house powered by plants

Dutch Minister Kamp opened the first biobased house at the Innovation Expo in Amsterdam recently. With this sample home the minister hopes to give the biobased sector a helping hand.

Not only are all the construction materials of the biobased home sustainable, the house is also powered by clean energy sources. Wageningen company Plant-e generates electricity from living plants on-site and the roof is covered by solar panels. A battery stores the electricity that is not used immediately. In terms of energy, the house is fully self-sufficient. A connection to the power grid is not necessary.
