UK: AHDB organizes summer open evening

This year’s AHDB summer open evening will be held on Tuesday 21 June. As last year, the event has been planned to coincide with the HTA Plant Show at Stoneleigh Park. A mini-bus has been arranged to transfer visitors from Stoneleigh to Baginton Nurseries at 16:30, for presentations and a tour of the trials currently underway.

The programme of work for this year includes: Verbena nutrition, overwintered perennials, niche / novel crops (Hellebore), spectral filters (glass coatings and films) and improving cutting success.

AHDB will also be presenting the bedding plant propagation growing medium component of the ‘Transition to responsibly sourced growing media use within UK Horticulture’ (CP138) project. 2016 represents year two of this five year project and is the first year of grower hosted on-site trials. Project background and progress will be presented against a backdrop of peat-reduced and peat-free pack bedding plants.

The evening will round off with a BBQ and refreshments. This event will be a way for growers to provide comments on the trials currently in place, and to contribute to the planning of future work within the bedding and pot plant centre.
