US (CA): Over 70 dahlia varieties ready to be picked

The flower patch next door to the Pescadero Country Store is awash with a rainbow’s palette. It is the fruit of many months of labor by the farmers at the Pescadero Flowery.

The best part about these flowers, over 70 varieties of dahlias, is that they have been grown specifically for your picking pleasure.

“We started offering U-pick last week,” said Pescadero Flowery owner Mia Riddle. “We have every color under the sun, except blue. The field is looking great and really colorful.”

The Pescadero Flowery is now branching out, so to speak, beyond dahlias. They have partnered with Fly Girl Farm and are offering a workshop on creating centerpieces.

The class, presented by Half Moon Bay Farmers Market florist fixture Airielle Love, comes with a unique twist.

“The course is called ‘The Wild Table’ because we are going to focus on cultivated plants and foraged plants,” said Riddle.
